FHSQ-iCONNECT

“merging psychometrics and clinimetrics”

In 2024, development commenced on the FHSQ‑iConnect project, with the objective of creating a contemporary solution to support the routine measurement of foot health status in daily clinical practice. The project involved secondary analysis of foot health data derived from more than 172 international clinical trials, encompassing well over 15,000 patients. This large‑scale analysis is generating novel insights into global patterns and trends in foot health.

A key outcome of usability testing and proof‑of‑concept research has been the development of new clinical indices, each grounded in clinimetric theory and explicitly designed to support clinical decision‑making in everyday practice. These indices represent a substantial advancement in the clinical applicability of the FHSQ and underpin its recognition as a contemporary gold‑standard measure.

When combined with existing FHSQ data, the new indices provide clinicians with a comprehensive framework for monitoring and interpreting patient health trajectories with greater precision and in real time. The FHSQ‑iConnect platform enables assessments to be initiated directly from the clinician’s office, with patient‑reported results presented in a format aligned with established medical reporting conventions.

A central component of the platform is the FHSQ‑iConnect knowledge base, which comprises an extensive repository of condition‑specific foot health data. This includes reference data for populations with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, obesity, ankylosing spondylitis, varying severities of hallux abducto valgus, multiple sclerosis, and pregnancy, as well as data reflecting the foot health of nurses in daily occupational practice.

Several new versions of FHSQ‑iConnect are currently in the final stages of development. Each version is tailored to meet the needs of different users and clinical settings. Further details about the iConnect project and anticipated release timelines are available via the Contact tab.
